Have you felt the shift since Mercury turned retrograde September 26-27? I’ve noticed transactions and communications aren’t flowing as smoothly as before. I can feel the confusion and am being mindful to take extra care and thought into any purchases or plans. Mercury joins a grouping of five planets already retrograde: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Now we get to mentally process all these energies we’ve been reviewing for the past few months. Questions abound, like where to expand in life, how will we find the discipline to do so, and what do we need that’s new and innovative, where to chart our visions, and lastly where will life transformations take place. With Mercury touring zodiac sign Libra, we’re encouraged to find balance and seek cooperation with others. That’s a good place to start searching for deeper answers. Summer break is over and a new fall harvest is beginning. Transits reflect and inspire our personal transitions. As an astrologer fascinated by all areas of study, I’ve been expanding my own studies with a focus on Financial Astrology for the purposes of learning how best to invest money. The topic of Mundane Astrology, which is about politics and global matters such as inflation, also factors into analysis as a complementary approach to Money or Financial Astrology. There are some telltale planetary transit signals that support what many investors and economists are saying about the future. The upcoming year of 2022 is especially concerning from an astrological perspective. But before I get too far ahead, for now let’s focus on 2021. If you’re an investor it’s wise to plan for a roller coaster ride through the end of this year. If you’re afraid of highs and lows, you may soon want to stop the excitement for a bit and sit it out somewhere safer. (Btw, I’m not convinced Bitcoin is safer in the long run.) December in particular shows the greatest cause for alarm where an important financial story will start and/or reprise. On December 11 Venus and Pluto conjoin for the first of three meetings. Venus will turn retrograde December 19, and then another precise conjunction for Venus and Pluto occurs on Christmas Day. Note: Venus is the planet of relationships – with people and money, including banking, currencies, and earned income. Pluto is generally known as the planet of power, control, death and transformation. In addition, Pluto can represent debt, money from others, taxes, traumatic events, and upheavals. All these energies are highlighted and super concentrated when combined together. I would extract the emphasis to two key words: money and control; yet now the bigger question is: who controls our money, and how? Looking back in history let’s compare October 19, 1987 when the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 22.6%, Venus and Pluto were conjunct at 9° Scorpio. That “Black Monday” was a huge one day event also strongly influenced by zodiac sign Scorpio as it’s governed by planet Pluto in Modern Astrology. This December in 2021 Venus connects with Pluto for an extended period of days in zodiac sign Capricorn. The planetary guardian of this goat is Saturn, so in a sense it’s like having Saturn conjunct Pluto. Also Capricorn and Saturn rule the life areas of government and business. Scorpio/Pluto suggests forceful power and catharsis while Capricorn/Saturn indicates restrictions, limits, and lessons. Unfortunately this doesn’t look like it will be a light or easy, breezy holiday season. If we revisit what occurred shortly after the great Saturn-Pluto conjunction on January 12, 2020 (remember the announcement of a pandemic?) then perhaps what will culminate in December 2021 are the ultimate end results from all the government regulations and assistance we’ve experienced in the way of lock downs, stimulus money, new laws, proposed bills, inflation, etc. since Covid-19 first came on the scene. Venus and Pluto will be within a tight 2° orb of 25° Capricorn from December 6 – 31, 2021 – for an unusually extended stay. Whatever is happening in the US and the world during this month will surely be influential for the future of 2022 and beyond. I’m hoping the looming debt crisis and other pending bills are finalized long before this time frame. To make matters even more challenging, Saturn and Uranus will make final exact contact on Christmas Eve. These two planets have provided a major overall theme for 2021 of initiating traditional structures (as in “Build Back Better”) while in tension with progress and revolution with technology (such as cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence and electrifying transportation). For those in the US, the celestial concentration of December begins with a Solar Eclipse precisely at the same degree as the popular Sibley US Natal Chart Ascendant, off only by one minute. Again, this suggests a foremost pivot and time when we'll see a huge shift in how the US appears on the world stage. It seems almost as if we could be reaching a government and financial tipping or breaking point as these above dynamisms "bubble up" and collide. There’s much more happening with the celestial transits in 2022 to talk about, so stay tuned for more mundane and financial astrological insights. Please do let me know if you’re as fascinated by this area of astrological practice as I am. Reaching skyward for cosmic truth, Trudy Carol
