Astrology has been popular among musical artists and singer/songwriters for many years. Here’s a list of songs about astrology that were recorded by some of the world’s favorite artists. Song lyrics written about zodiac signs dominate as we can see below: “No Matter What Sign You Are” recorded by Diana Ross & the Supremes Co-written by Berry Gordy, Jr. and Henry Cosby and released in May 1969, this song makes me wonder how much astrology played into the fortunes of the legendary producer and Motown founder. While we don’t have his exact birth time, we do know he was born with a concentrated stellium of the Sun, Mercury and Mars all at 6-7° Sagittarius. This configuration suggests dynamic actions focused on spirituality and mental expansion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d76SGvjys2U “Signs” by Beyoncé featuring Missy Elliott from her 2003 Album “Dangerously in Love” It would seem Queen Bey has her own intrinsic feelings towards astrology as she relates the various zodiac signs to people she’s known in her life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCSjHVobrjQ Albert King – “Born Under a Bad Sign” This 1967 song co-written by Booker T. Jones and William Bell became a Blues classic. As the lyricist says per Wikipedia, “Astrology and all that stuff was pretty big then. I got this idea that [it] might work." It’s notable and somewhat amusing that in spite of this acclaimed work, most professional astrologers I know will tell you there really is no ‘bad’ sign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUiP2iW30-M “Zodiac Suite” by Steven Halpern Ahead of his time with this vinyl album in 1977, Ambient Music master encapsulated relaxing New Age music without using any words. These 12 individual tracks are perfectly hypnotic and mesmerizing to enjoy for meditations. Let me know which track is your favorite, and if it’s also your Sun sign (or one of the other planetary signs in your natal chart). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdxg7r6M_iU “Goodbye Pisces” by Tori Amos Here’s one especially for Pisces peeps released in 2005. The music is a bit Chinese influenced perhaps to complement the lyrics “like a bull in a china shop”. Without a doubt the most astrological line she wrote is “As Mars sauntered through his door.” It’s a good song if you’re into crying and trying to mend a broken heart. In this instance for those watery tears of Pisces it seems the shoe is on the other foot, because Tori Amos is a Leo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpf5E5NJfg4 “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” with lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni; music by Galt MacDermot Dating back to the 1967 musical “Hair”, I’ll admit I’m old enough to remember this medley that later became a huge radio hit recorded by The 5th Dimension. Of all the songs on my list, this one’s my favorite for its powerful prophetic wisdom as we’re in the midst of slowly transitioning from the Age of Pisces to enter Aquarius. We’ll be feeling undertones of this influence even more once geocentric Pluto enters Aquarius in 2023-2024. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlrQ-bOzpkQ “Jesus Was a Capricorn” by Kris Kristofferson I can’t omit this 1972 release even though aside from the title this tune isn’t really about astrology. But hey, Kris’ mention of zodiac sign Capricorn, and the resonating message of his lyrics promoting love and peace while speaking truth, is good enough reason for me to add it to the list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frVK05b8r5s Stay tuned for Part Two! © 2021 Trudy Carol
